Islay Distilleries

Producing its first cask of whisky in 2018, but officially opening in 2019, Ardnahoe is Islay’s newest distillery and the first to be built on the island since 2005. Located on the north-east coast of Islay, Ardnahoe is a family-owned distillery, established by Hunter Laing & Co. The distillery has an accompanying visitor centre.
The Laings have a family background in Scotch whisky – their father founded his own blending and bottling company back in 1948. The family are still known to this day for being independent bottlers. Independent bottlers purchase distilleries’ casks from which the owners themselves have often chosen not to bottle, to bottle and blend these whiskies under their own releases. Stewart Laing and his sons run their own independent bottling company, Hunter Laing & Co., counting brands such as Hepburn’s Choice and The Sovereign among its portfolio.
In 2016, Hunter Laing & Co. announced intentions to build their Islay distillery. The distillery has been producing since 2018, meaning Ardnahoe has not as of yet reached maturation on its own distilled product.
