The range

Islay single malt scotch whisky

After two sherried releases, Pe3 was a chance to go to something different – it was bottled from a single bourbon cask. It’s an elegant dram that helps show the range of whisky available from this lamented, closed distillery.

Tasting notes

  • Nose

Medicinal, with bandages, iodine and camphor balanced by honey, coal and sweet wood smoke.
  • Palate

Elegant and comparatively delicate, with the sweetness from the nose becoming aromatic manuka honey, supported by bonfire smoke and hints of the medicinal flavours from the nose. Dry spice and lemon zest build with sooty smoke.
  • Finish

Dry and spicy, with savoury and ashy smoke lingering.

Pe3 Reviews

  • This is a classic peat-packed, zesty middle-aged PE, with a lot of lemon, a little salt and a perfect peatiness.
